What You Need To Know About Your Garden
Gardening is a pass time for many that is done in an effort to produce beautiful flowers and/or healthy fruits and vegetables
. Many who garden are simply people who would like to have healthy, organic produce for their kitchens. What some do not realize, though, is that their own garden can be flocked with dangerous and harmful chemicals.
This realization is startling and hard to believe for those who have been under the impression that they are growing organic fruits and vegetables. After all, if those who have their own gardens in their own back yards are not spraying chemicals, there's no reason they should not be organic. Right? Wrong. There are in fact several ways that the fruits and vegetables grown in the backyard gardens of many might be contaminated with several harmful chemical substances.
First, if the garden in question lines the fence of another yard and the owner of that neighboring yard sprays for weeds; those are chemicals that should not be put in a garden. They can easily spread a few feet-even if a fence is in the way. Another point of concern should be the fence itself. If the fence is made of wood and has been painted or stained, the chemicals in the paint or stain could easily affect the soil around it. These chemicals could spread onto the ground and have devastating effects upon the soil in anyone's back yard garden.
Something that is essential for the success of a backyard garden is to have nutrient-rich soil. That is why it is so important to ensure that chemicals are nowhere to be found for the sake of the seeds that need nutrition in order to grow. Several people with gardens unknowingly contaminate their own backyard garden soil by purchasing mulch for their gardens that is not organic. Organic mulch should still be rich in nutrients necessary for growing fruits and vegetables. Those who purchase mulch that have been dyed with chemicals are only crippling the potential of the garden soil in their yard.
Those who are educated about the harmful effects that any type of chemicals can have on their gardens will find themselves far better able to grow nutrient rich fruits and vegetables in their back yards. Simply try to purchase organic landscaping supplies, stay away from pesticides and dyed mulch and these steps will help to ensure that chemicals will not be adversely affecting the garden in the future.
