Vacation home rental can be a big deal. After all, isn't it cheaper just to go to a hotel? Isn't is better to go to a hotel?

The fact is, the hype is all about going to hotels. But what you may not realize is that going to a hotel may not be your best option.

First of all, hotels are dirty. If you were to take a black light into a hotel (and it is seriously recommended that you don't if you value your sanity, sense of cleanliness, and happiness in general), then you would probably find more bodily fluids than even at a hospital! The point? Most vacation homes aren't like that. They are much cleaner.

Secondly, we've all had that moment where we went to a hotel, intended on getting lots of sleep and guess what? Our lovely neighbors turned on the stereo at two am and started yelling and shouting and making merry. Except we, quite frankly, weren't so merry. With most vacation home rentals, you're the one renting and you aloneunless you decide to go halfsies with a good buddy who you know wouldn't do such a thing. Or perhaps that's what you're looking for and you want to be considerate of others and do this at a private place instead of a place where you would be bothering loads of people? The point isyou CAN do this there or you can relax. It's up to you.

Finally, most hotels that are on location are really expensive. You don't want to spend all your money on a hotel for one nightthis is quite obvious. The good thing about vacation home rental is that you usually get to stay in a nice, spacious, private home, for a lot less than other "on location" areas.

But you do need to know a few things about vacation home rental:

First of all, most people require a contract be signed. This is a good thing to keep in mind and also usually results in good things for youbut you need to make sure that you REALLY think about what you're getting into when it comes to stuff like that. Have someone who is a lawyer or someone who is good with paperwork look over the contract to make sure that there aren't any hidden details that you couldn't decipher.

Next, ask about discounts. Most areas will give you a discount if you book early or off season. Let's face ityou want a vacation, they want to make sure that they have enough moneyit's quite the win-win situation. Plus, if you DO go off season, you don't have to deal with all of the crazy kids and families who don't have time to go any other time during the year.

Lastly, vacation home rental can be quite easy. Once you get your pricing and budgeting down-pat, there's almost nothing else for you to do! Simply sit back and relax!
