What You Should Know About Carpenter Ants
Carpenter ants may seem to look and act harmless but when these little creatures are left to thrive in a home, they can leave much damage and bring lots of nuisances as well. These ants arrive especially during warm weather but when they are left uncontrolled, can actually increase in number and build huge colonies in an area. Of course, like any kind of pests, the proliferation of these carpenter ants can be controlled and a home can say goodbye to the damage that they can possibly bring. If you have noticed some ants bigger than the normal size we are used to, then you might be dealing with carpenter ants. These ants are usually sized from about .25 inch to .5 inch. They can be seen walking across yards, along window sills and practically anyplace warm or made of wood. If you have seen some of them in your home, then there is a huge possibility that there is one or more colony of carpenter ants in your home. These little nuisances excavate wood not because they eat wood like termites do, but more so because they use wood to nest and build colonies. Carpenter ants love to make their homes on wood and on damp areas in the house. These damp areas can go from walls to ceilings to bookshelves to old appliances. These ants make tunnels and pathways through wood so you can expect them to make much damage if left to spread and thrive. While they do not eat wood, they can be seen foraging dead insects and human food like meat, honey and sugar. While some think that all these activities are harmless, if these carpenter ants are not controlled, they can wreak havoc in a home's structure and furnishings. Of course, nobody wants to have these buggers walking around the home either. If you are not worried about the damage they can cause to your belongings or your property, then you can at least be affected of how unsightly they can be. Imagine entertaining guests in your home with a long line of ants walking through the coffee table near the window. Now, your guests would totally be turned off and probably think that you are a bad housekeeper with all these carpenter ants. To prevent all these, there are two options to consider when handling carpenter ants. You can either control then yourself using the ready-to-use pest control products or you can call a pest control company to handle the job. The first option is indeed more economical as you can get carpenter ant bait for a few dollars. The second option, however, can be the wiser choice if you do not want to leave anything to chance. You can simply call on pest control experts and let them handle the problem of carpenter ants without any worries.
