What Your Door Handles Say About Your Workplace
The types of door handles your business uses say more than you might think about your company's culture and priorities
. Customers may notice a detail as small as a door handle as they approach your business' front door or sit in the waiting room. In addition to a clean and organized office, door hardware makes a statement about how you run your business.
Door Knobs
Traditional spherical door knobs are typically some of the least expensive types of door hardware available for both interior and exterior doors. They come in different finishes, including brass, rubbed bronze, crystal and nickel. If you choose a door knob for your office doors, choose one with some character. For example, some low-key engraving or a rubbed bronze finish can set your doors off nicely. Choose door knobs that match the wall colour and overall decorative feel of your office.
Door Levers
Door levers are a step up from the usual door knobs and are somewhat more expensive. They also come in a variety of finishes to complement your decorative style. Some of them are very modern in design, giving the feeling of clean professionalism or being in a sterile environment. Others have more curves and hearken to more traditional styles. A more modern door lever may be appropriate for automotive shops, clinics, or perhaps a contemporary business meeting room. Think of how you want your customers to feel when they enter your office. If you have a psychiatry office or spa, for example, you may want door levers that create a more warm feeling in rooms.
Locks
Consider whether and what types of locks you want on your office doors. If you have private offices for employees or rooms where confidential files are located, a lock on the door is appropriate. Locks can also make clients feel as if you have something to hide, and it may make them feel like they cannot trust you as much as they would like. When choosing doors with locks, try to choose ones that offer the security you need, but whose locks are not so obtrusive that they overtake the rest of the door handles' features.
Front Doors
Your office's front doors should have a different style of door knob or lever than those in the interior rooms of your office, if possible. If you are a fun-loving company, you could choose a quirky door handle for your front door that makes customers wonder in a positive way on the other side of the door. If you have a law office, you might want a more sedate, but ornate door handle to grace your front door. This type of door handle can project professionalism in a way an offbeat handle cannot.
The types of door handles in your office help you convey the right impression to customers. Although the choice of a door hardware may initially seem irrelevant, it is a choice to be considered carefully to project a clean-cut, professional business image.
