What's the "Digg" Deal?

What's the "Digg" Deal?

When I got an invite to check Digg 4.0, I really liked its clean design that looked like a match made in heaven between Facebook and Twitter! I also noticed that, unlike digg's older versions, Digg 4.0 wasn't loaded with ads.

Still, the new design was met by so many angry reactions that got me into thinking: What's the "Digg" deal?!

The Digg 4.0 Controversy

Matt Williams, Digg's new CEO, has a lot on his plate because many people are not so happy by the fact that a lot of digg's searches and top news items come from Reddit.com. Except for lucky reddit, everyone else is not so thrilled by that!

People have been competing in expressing their anger at the new design and the "I hate the new Digg" Facebook page saw the light!

What Exactly Ticks People off About Digg 4.0?

Unlike older versions, you no longer can see what your friends' diggs

In Digg 4.0, my news is no longer mine alone; my friends' news gets in as well!

The new Digg left the door wide open for massive spamming with its auto submission feature

The new Digg's submission is currently open to publishers and account holders. What about the rest of digg's users?!

Here is a real bummer: new Digg took away user stats! So power users are no longer recognized!

The very cool friends' recommendations feature disappeared in Dig 4.0, leaving you clueless about your friends' views and opinions

RSS feeds and new Digg simply don't rhyme! In other words, you can no longer search for a popular category and will have to "Digg" for an ant in the desert instead!!

You can kiss subcategories goodbye in Digg 4.0 because only the top categories are retained

You are still unable to cross-post to Facebook, Google and Twitter

New Digg crashes often because it has bugs! Well, that really "bugs" people!

In an attempt to cool down the angry masses, Kevin Rose, Digg's founder, has beenblogging like crazy and promising to make things better but will he succeed?

What's There to Like About Digg 4.0?

Fortunately, new Digg does have some good staff that would ease users' shock to some extent. Here are some of them.

A clean design

Full news customization

Allowing content auto submitting

Connecting with Twitter, Facebook and Google

Allowing feeds importing

Removing the unneeded Upcoming Section

Quality now wins over quantity so really good diggers can shine like pros without having to submit a load of articles every day

The Report X' button allows you to report spam links to spam sites

The new Digg allows old users to invite new people along. That's good to know after all I guess!

It's still too early to predict how the future will unfold for the newly born Digg 4.0. So, let's just wait and see and while waiting impatiently I can't help but wonder: What's the "Digg" deal?
