Probably one of the most practical and simplest solutions to combating the cold is the sleeved blanket or Slanket as it is most popularly known. A Slanket is a body length blanket with sleeves made of fleece material. It looks similar in design to a bathrobe that is worn backwards, except that it is longer. You can wrap it around yourself, and keep warm and snug, and move your arms about freely, because there are large sleeves attached. This way, people can change channels with the remote when watching television, make a cup of coffee, game on their laptops, talk freely on cell phones and read a book with ease and in warm comfort.

So who came up with this ingenious idea? In 1998, Gary Clegg decided to tear a hole in his sleeping bag to keep his upper body warm, while he used his remote control. This made him ask his mother to make him a blanket with a single sleeve for use, which he used in his dorm. Later, Clegg developed this into one with two sleeves, and this was how the Slanket was born.

The standard Slanket is long enough to completely cover all individuals, no matter how tall they are. With a width of 60 inches and a length of 95 inches, even people over 6 feet can cover up comfortably. There are other versions of the Slanket released now. The Kids Slanket measures 44 inches by 66 inches. There is also a Double Slanket, also known as the Siamese Slanket. This version of the Slanket is just like the original, but for two people. There is more than enough fabric to keep two people covered with 120 inches by 95 inches of super soft material.

Another introduction to the Slanket family is the Travel Slanket. It is more compact and lightweight in comparison to the full size adult Slanket and measures 58 inches by 66 inches perfect for taking on your holidays. It not only fits in your hand luggage, but you also do not need to buy a blanket on the plane to keep warm.

The Slanket is a great way to combat the cold and keep the heating bills low. One of the advantages of this blanket is that it is machine washable, and has no risk of the stitching becoming undone as it is a very well sewn blanket. Also, because it is so lightweight, it does not take long to wash or dry.
