What are the most common faults that develop with LCD monitors?

LCD Monitors are thin flat screen monitors that work with liquid crystal display technology

. These types of monitors have been around for several years, although their rates have fallen dramatically in the last few years increasing affordability and therefore their popularity.

Most computer buyers buy LCD flat-screen monitors now-a-days but they do present some major maintenance challenges, as opposed to CRT monitors.

How do they work?

LCD Monitor works on the principle of re-aligning a liquid crystal's molecular structure by applying a small amount of electricity to the crystal. With the removal of electric charge the liquid crystal regain its original state. The electricity is applied on the crystal to turn it black to block the light

A LCD Monitor has a cold cathode backlight which illuminates the entire display on surface. Liquid crystals are sandwiched between the backlight and a thin film containing millions of translucent red, green, and blue, these three dots are arranged in triangle patters called as triads. Each tirade represents a pixel.

Problems with LCD monitors

LCD Monitors are quite fragile and its surface can be scratched easily.

Difficulty in reading text

Picture clarity is a very important factor and its safe to assume that while the images in LCD are clearer it's tough to read the texts in the lower end of the monitors even if it is running at its native resolution.

Blank screen

Another common problem is that they sometimes don't display anything. this could be for a number of reasons such as video card issues, faulty cables and so on.

Lack of picture quality

LCD Monitors have a maximum pixel resolution and if you try to display images on a higher resolution than its capacity then the picture would most likely appear blurry or stretched.

A monitor with a resolution of 1024X768 contains only 786,432 pixels. As each pixel is made of three separate elements so in the entire monitor would work I only 2,359,296 separate crystals, resulting in a slow response rate.

Stuck pixels

Stuck pixels are a very common problem with nearly all the LCD monitors. Little black dots appear and they won't go even when a different picture displayed on the screen. The reason for this problem is that tiny liquids in every pixel don't spread out to every place in monitor leaving some pixels dead.

Color depth variation

If we view the images from a particular angle in LCD monitor than they appear a bit deeper or darker.

And here's a top tip: to get rid of light scratches on your monitor, try rubbing a very little amount of some Vaseline on the scratch and in most cases, this should remove or minimize the scratch.
