What attracts people to live in Leeds?

There are many reasons why Leeds has been voted the most popular place to live in the UK on several occasions

. Where tourists and first-time visitors may see a city of red bricks and Victorian monuments, locals have come to know the numerous sides of the city, from its scenic canal walks to its buzzing nightlife and some of the best places to eat out in the country.

Leeds rose to prominence through its textile industry before becoming one of the UK's financial powerhouses and an important university city, but the local tourism industry is fast catching up as more people in the North of England and beyond recognise its diverse appeal for city breaks. But even more significant than the tourists is the growing number of people who are choosing to relocate to Leeds to enjoy superior quality of life.

To call Leeds an up-and-coming city would fail to recognise that its moment has already arrived, and is not likely to depart any time soon. A city that seamlessly blends urban sprawl with rolling green parks unlike any other, Leeds even beats some of its other Northern rivals by laying claim to a beach, located just north of the central railway station on the banks of the River Aire. That's not to mention its competitive public amenities and transport services, making it easier to get around in the Yorkshire city.

Leeds is a welcoming city for residents of all backgrounds, whether you're looking for flats to rent in Leeds city centre close to all the major amenities or out in the surrounding towns like Bradford, Dewsbury, Halifax, Huddersfield and Wakefield, each of which has its own distinctive charm.

Leeds is understandably popular with students too, who can find a huge choice of accommodation close to Leeds University, a huge complex which also plays host to a number of high-profile events throughout the year. Around 30,000 of Leeds' 700,000 residents are students, and landlords and letting agencies have been quick to catch on and offer highly competitive and high quality accommodation to lodgers of all ages.

And why wouldn't you want to live in a city that was recognised as having the highest quality of life in Britain, above the likes of Birmingham, Liverpool, Manchester, Sheffield and London? The old adage that 'it's grim up north' no longer holds sway with anyone who has experienced modern Leeds - the happiest place to live in the UK.
