What does mothers' day mean to u?

Well, to me it comes down to what does my mom mean to me? Please don't get me wrong, some people think people are moms because they fell pregnant and gave birth after nine months. They are looking at the biological aspect of it. Well, people do become pregnant and give birth and still don't become moms. The fact that your mom carried you for nine months doesn't have to be the main important reason why she is a mom.

What is a mom then? It goes deeper than that, I am not sure that I can be able to explain it all in this article. A mom is a caring, persevering and a support structure in one's life that can never be replaced. She is tough but yet delicate. A pure gem that is not easy on the face of the earth. Someone who loves you even in times where you are not lovable. Who stands by you in the darkest hours of your life. Who advices, directs and rebukes you with love. She is not perfect but always wishes that you should not stumble in the same mistakes she made. She is someone who does her best to fulfil your needs, even though she may have her own urgent needs. When I think of my mom, I just see a word SACRIFICE' in capital letters in front of my eyes.

My mom became a single parent in the very early stages of my life and she did her best to provide for us. She was working very hard for very long hours. But, she was not doing it alone. Which comes to my next important point. In the community where we grew up, you get a lot of helping hand from family. My granny and my aunt were by her side. We moved in the same house hold to make things easier.

Both my aunt and granny were really playing roles of moms in our lives. They were taking very good care of us, meaning my siblings and I. Every time when It comes to this time of the year, I always send them little some things to say thanks just as I do to my mom.

The point I am driving to is, you can be someone's mom without actually giving birth to them. Coming to think of it, how many women give birth to their children and abundant them shortly afterwards? We can't ignore people who do exceptionally well in our communities by taking care of children which they did not actually give birth to like, nannies, foster parents, extended relatives and family and friends, etc, who are adding value.

This mother's day, I want to challenge you to find a couple of women who contributed positively in your life and give them something like a present. If you don't know what to give out you can check out this site. Affirm them and appreciate them with words or write a letter or something. I know it might not be other your nature to do this but try it. There is always the first time. I remember this statement that says, you reap what you saw. You will also reap from your good deeds.
