Apple seems to satisfy both interested parties which have been looking forward to getting a new Apple's iOS. It has submitted extremely fabulous features on the user-facing side of the iOS but also managed to even excel at providing a multitude of APIs for developers.

The greatest advantage of the news OS is, no doubt, support for multitasking. Most iPhone developers will agree it's one of the biggest additions and is quite easy to function. To add new levels of backgrounding to an application is very simple. A function called Fast App Switching literally freezes the app in place it was. Only three classes of applications have managed to escape being backgrounded. These are VoIP, audio, and location-based applications. Apple has applied different modes in trying to solve the issue with them. Each of these apps is treated a bit differently. . VoIP apps will be always available background-launched on system boot, while audio apps will be backgrounded as long as they play music, location-based apps have their own mode of backgrounding.

Such an inconsistent approach doesn't resemble a usual Apple's policy providing rumors that the company is now experimenting studying what will be a more reasonable approach against a slew of applications. For a set of other apps Apple has solved the problem in a very peculiar way arranging push notifications for them.

So, we see that the company's OS remains to be a very limited one. But Apple is haughtily ignoring complains of some user who want to run in the background an app they have chosen themselves, for example, constantly checking for a new articles or the latest exchanges updates. But it seems that Apple is not going to focus its precious attention and efforts at that niche, reasoning a person can always download articles when necessary and when he or she is allowed to do it. But a lot of people launch apps to let them download content before going underground or boarding a plane later to be able to indulge into a pleasurable activity of reading an interesting article, a piece of news, whatever.

Apple may address the needs of that particular group of customers providing something like a network access while backgrounded. But it definitely won't happen till next year. So lots of users will remain disappointed realizing that a very promising Apple's option of multitasking is not that useful and doesn't in the least resemble PC multitasking. From the marketing point of view it was a rather splendid decision that added a lot to the overall attractiveness of the platform. Agitated by Apple's promises and advertising both iPhone customers and developers expected the new iPhone to do things that apps can do in a traditional computer multitasking environment. But the reality turned out to be a bit different. Though in general it will hardly influence the overall demand for a new gadget but will definitely have some users think over the company's marketing policy.
