What is a Personal Computer?

Almost every one of us today has or if not knows about PCs or personal computers. A personal computer is any general-purpose computer whose capabilities, quality, size, price and other similar features make it useful for any individual to directly use it according to what that person needs and wants. In another much simpler word, a PC is any type of computer that is used in a "personal" manner. Nowadays, there is a wide variety of personal computers to choose from. They come in different kinds, quality, performance and sizes. There are even more different colors to choose from along with different unique designs. They also ranges from the most common desktop computer to a handheld PC (palmtop).There are also laptops and tablet PCs. Software applications and installations for personal computers include spreadsheets, word processing, databases, e-mail clients, games and entertainment and myriad personal productivity and special-purpose software applications. Modern personal computers often have connections to the Internet, allowing access to the World Wide Web and a wide range of other resources. A PC may be used at home or in an office. They may also be connected to a local area network, also known as LAN, either by a cable or a wireless connection. With this features, anyone can easily install and uninstall any programs and applications that can be used especially in everyday living.

But where do personal computers along with the many different kinds of computers today start?

Personal Computers along with microcomputers and other kinds were made possible by two technical innovations in the field of microelectronics, the invention of the integrated circuit or IC. It was developed in 1959. The other invention was the microprocessor, which first appeared in 1971. The IC permitted the miniaturization of computer-memory circuits, and the microprocessor reduced the size of a computer's CPU to the size of a single silicon chip. Thus, the invention of the microprocessor, a machine which combines the equivalent of thousands of transistors on a single, tiny silicon chip, along with the integrated circuit gives the perfect opening to transform the gigantic computers of old ages to a more convenient to use and handy computers of today. From there on, hundreds of more other improvements and inventions like the microprocessor and IC has been discovered and made and then added to make the personal computer we were using now.

Today, we enjoy the sweet benefits of using these different kinds of computers in our daily living. May it be on work, businesses or even for personal relaxation and entertainment; a personal computer can be one of the greatest buddies one could have. They make impossible tasks doable and the jobs that seem to take days to finish can be done just in hours, so we could always spend a lot more quality time to our dear beloved families and to our creator.
