The classroom component will require a person to have general education classes that are heavy on the sciences. During the clinical portion of the PTA program, a person will be out in the field working with licensed physical therapists learning the job. The clinical portion will include class time as well.

The cost of an accredited physical therapy assistant program will vary from college to college. Generally, the cost for one of these programs is around $30,000 and will take anywhere from 18 to 24 months to complete. As a PTA student, you can expect your course load to include classes such as biology, physiology, anatomy, and other sciences as well. Most programs will also require English and mathematics classes, along with other general education courses.

The job of a PTA is not easy, oftentimes it is the PTA who will work directly with a patient, and taking on the bulk of the workload as the physical therapist will be the one developing the plan or course of action for the patient.
