You shouldn't feel pressured to buy any certain kind, but they should give you good advice. Ask for references from the windows company, family, friends, and neighbors and then check out the references you have to call. This is an important step in finding out how good a company is and in protecting yourself.

Don't do business with a company that will give you a price without first coming to your home and seeing what you need. Usually this means they are just after the money, and will not provide you with good service. You should get estimates from more than one company. Aim for at least three different estimates and make sure to tell each windows company that you are shopping around. This will get you a better deal because they know they are facing competition for your business. They should be able to give you their credentials immediately and if you feel uneasy about the company or the workers, look elsewhere.

Make sure they explain how long it will take, prices, and what they will be doing. Keep written records to make sure you only pay what is agreed upon.
