What to do if you forget your Windows login password

Windows has provided its user a security feature to protect valuable data on the computer. This feature is Windows login password'. It prevents unauthorized user from logging to the system if a password is set to the user account. If an authorized user ever forgets the password to his user account, he too is denied access to the system. In order to regain access to the computer and its resources, he will need to recover his password. For this, he can either use manual methods or take help of password recovery tools available in the market. But before spending money on such tools, you can try some simple methods to recover your Windows password.

First of all, regain your calm and try to remember the password you have set for you account because most of time people have the tendency to keep simple phrase or word as passwords that can be remembered easily. Was it your loved one's name, your favorite game, your favorite movie star or anything like that? Try every possible thing that you could use as a password before making sure that you have really lost it.

Second, you can use Windows default administrator account to reset your password. This account is created during installation of Windows on your system. If you did not set a password to this account during set up or you know the password, log in to the computer using this account. For this, boot your computer into 'Safe Mode' by pressing F8 button repeatedly while the computer is starting up. Go to User Accounts in Control Panel. From here you can change the password for the account you wish.

Third one is to use parallel installation. For this, pull out the hard drive from the machine and install it in a drive enclosure or you may plug it into another machine's IDE/SATA/SCSI/ (whatever it is) port. Boot up with this second machine's normal boot drive as 'Administrator'. This way you will be able to access or change permissions on any files on the drive you like. After that, put the drive back in its original case.
