What to do in Cairo after dark

Cairo is a fun and exciting city to explore at night as well as during the day and there are many Cairo hotels to choose from. The city is always bustling and is rarely quiet; even in the middle of the night. The Downtown area is the main place to go for those searching for somewhere to party after dark and there are many bars and restaurants where people can enjoy a range of meals and drinks for decent prices.

What would I eat in Cairo?

Anything you want - within reason! Cairo is just like any other big city with a wide range of restaurants all serving food from around the world. Italian, Indian, French, English, Thai and even Mexican can be found here and the majority of these are run by ex pats making the food all the more delicious.

Egyptian food is very tasty as well as healthy and there are many vegetarian dishes on offer. Breads are a popular side dish with meals as is rice and finding a good Egyptian restaurant here is easier than finding any other type of cuisine.

How much will eating out cost me?

However much you can afford! Cairo is home to a good selection of mid-range restaurants but there are also many plush hotels here that serve up some fantastic dishes. For those travelling on a budget, Cairo is a great place to visit as there are endless street stalls selling a wide range of Egyptian foods for cheap prices. Visitors can spend as much or as little during their stay here and your Cairo hotel will be able to help you with advice on where to eat.

Where should I eat?

It depends on what you are looking for! If you want international food then the hotels and resorts as well as the main downtown region are the best options and there are many eateries to choose between in the main tourist areas.

If you want to try some authentic Egyptian food then you will be spoilt for choice although the further you head out of the main areas; the more likely you will get a traditional meal. Plush restaurants serve up Egyptian food that is more palatable to western tastes (i.e. not so spicy) while the street vendors provide a real taste of Egypt.

What about alcohol?

Many visitors make the mistake of thinking that because Cairo is mainly a Muslim city that it will be hard to get an alcoholic drink here but actually it is quite the opposite. It can be hard to find places that stay open much later than 01:00 or 02:00 but if you just want to enjoy a few beers or glasses of wine until the small hours then there are plenty of places to choose from. Hotel bars nearly always serve alcohol while smaller and more rustic Egyptian bars will stick to serving iced water and fizzy drinks.

How do I find out more about Cairo at night?

A great way to get more information on what you can expect from your trip to Cairo is to ask the staff at your hotel. They will be able to offer you information about all aspects of the city as well as provide you with transport for getting around. The internet is also a good source of information and remember that Cairo by night is just as fun as it is by day!
