Year in and year out, countless people receive gifts from friends and family to congratulate them for their accomplishments, to say thank you, or just as a token of appreciation. These gifts may have had a good thought process devoted to them before they were bought and that says a lot about the gift giver's sincerity. The only problem is that in many occasions, the bride and/or the groom ends up discontented or unhappy with the giftand sometimes due to very good reasons!

Having accepted the unwanted gifts, you are left with a question: what do I do with all the gifts that I don't like? Here are some of the things that people could do to reduce the space consumption of unwanted gifts that have piled up and possibly even make money from doing so:

Check and review the store's exchange/return policies

You may have to talk to your friends on this one but it's really worth the effort. Although most people would say that asking friends where they bought their gift and even going to the extent of having them accompany you to have the gift replaced as something embarrassing, it's a lot more logical than just settling for gifts which you would have no use of. Some stores have exchange/return policies which would allow you to have items replaced within a certain span of time. You can swap your gift with something else if the policy permits it.

Sell your wedding gifts to interested parties

It may sound absurd but you have the option of selling your gifts. Thinking of this as something that would bring you bad luck is very backwards, so just think of what's best for you. There are many ways on how you can sell your items. While it is fun to hold a garage sale at your house, consider that your friends may stop by too. You wouldn't want them to find out you're selling their gifts to you, would you? Consider making an account in one of the many online stores like Ebay and have your items registered to sell. This is usually a lot faster than just waiting at a garage sale and you can reach customers all over the world. Another one is to have a private viewing of your items. Invite only those whom you trust and, of course, those who aren't bound to have an aching heart after finding out that you're disposing their gift to you. Putting your gifts on sale will definitely free up some funds for other things that you might actually want or need.

Recycle for upcoming events and occasions

If all else fails, make the most of what you have! Finding the right buyer for certain things can be tough, so another alternative to consider is regifting. Perhaps the gift you received is nice and might be a good gift for someone else, but maybe it is just not for you.

Gift giving has taken hundreds of years to evolve into how it is today. There are people who'd have the heart to accept things which others normally dislike. So even if you receive gifts you don't want, there are plenty of alternatives to turn them into something useful.
