What to eat in Barcelona

Barcelona's sense of time and, say, Boston's are entirely different. The day here starts at 9am (at the earliest) and ends at 4,5,6am. This means that breakfast is at 10am, siesta from 2-5pm, and dinner begins at 9pm at the earliest (and lasts until the bars close). It also means that the day revolves around food and conversation: gossip over cafe con leche, banter and bocadillos, life stories with churros con chocolate, and flirting between sips of cava.

Flamenco dinner and dance. Flamenco is a wonderful traditional dance from Spain which is fascinating to watch and quite different from any form of dance you might have seen before, with its strong form of expression. You can take advantage of the Spanish culture by watching Flamenco whilst you also enjoy some fantastic local food.

Your dining experience can be as fun or as serious as you want to make it. The food in Barcelona is considered as the best that Spain has to offer. Seafood is the traditional choice for most of the locals, but the range of choices on the menu is always wide and appealing

Tapas of course are Spain's great culinary gift to the world -and are a very good way to keep your budget down while you are eating in Barcelona. Go for Tapas as a quick and easy snack type meal or order a banquet and tuck in. There are literally thousands of tapas bars and cafes around Barcelona.

In Spring, you'll find wonderfully tasty wild asparagus is plentiful, and lots of calots (large spring onions); in the autumn there's nothing better than freshly picked rovellons (mushrooms) and in winter, you'll enjoy a hearty escudella d'olla - one of the best stews you could wish to find anywhere.

And just as Barcelona is a city of fine restaurants, it is also a place simply chock full of wonderful bars. Spain, needless to say, is a country where the bar is an integral part of social life and Barcelona is no different in that respect.
