However, the weather is absolutely delightful and there are several events planned in Baja and Sonora worth checking out. Even if you can only get away for a week, it's worth it to get out and enjoy the fresh air and sunshine of Mexico.
Lord of the Wind Showdown

The Lord of the Wind Showdown is an international kite boarding, wind surfing and standup paddleboard competition. More than $19,000 in prizes will be handed out to winners of competitions, including downwind slaloms, course races and free style windsurfing contests. There will also be windsurfing and kite clinics and gear demos. Onshore, check out live music, bikini contests, BBQ's and other events going on throughout the week.

La Ventana, located just 35 minutes outside of La Paz is the home to the La Ventana Classic and KiteXpo, a windsurfing, paddle boarding and kite boarding contest. Cash prizes and other prizes from sponsors will be awarded to winners. Clinics and gear demos will be held in addition to races. The La Ventana Classics is organized by Palapas Ventana and The Kiteboarder Magazine. Proceeds from the event go to support local schools.
27th annual Alfonso Ortiz Tirado Festival 2011

This annual event is held at various cities throughout Mexico. It is named after national hero Alfonso Ortiz Tirado, who was born in Alamos, Sonora, making the part of the festival that is held here an extra special event. Alfonso Ortiz Tirado was not only a famous singer but also a famous surgeon, who was the doctor of many well-known clients, including Frida Kahlo. The weeklong event in Alamos will feature concerts by bands and musical artists in a number of locations throughout the town.
