If you are wondering if you are suffering from emotional binge eating, you can do a simple experiment. Eat just like you have been eating this far and follow your eating habits for a week or two with a food diary. Write down everything you eat and also pay attention on how you felt both before and after eating. Can you see any patterns? There are also other ways on when and how these conditions start. Stress can trigger you to eat more than the normal amount of food that you consume. This is clinically called binge-eating. Excessive eating is usually done secretively.

With the eagerness to lose weight and food-related obsessions, your relationships with other people are also affected. There are instances that you become too focused in exercising that you forget to socialize with your family and friends. With the fear to gain weight, you may also tend to disregard attending family events and even a simple dinner date with your friends.

Anorexia or bulimia is usually caused by depression and stress. You may feel unattractive or unsatisfied with your weight. People who are compulsive overeaters understand that overeating leads to obesity. The reason they continue to indulge though is not because they want to be overweight, or because they lack will power. It's because the food is gratifying some need within them, thus they need to find another source of gratification that will give them that same feeling.

The solution lies in seeking a different answer to the anxiety, stress, and depression that leads so many to the dangerous habit of compulsive overeating. Studies show that a habit is generally ingrained in two weeks. So considering the lifetime of forming compulsive overeating habits, changing one's mindset and holding that line for two weeks seems doable.
