Most women have about a twenty eight day cycle which starts on the first day of your period each month

. Ovulation happens on about day fourteen. Sperm can live for five days in our bodies (rarely most die in a couple days) and the egg takes some time to move through your body. That means you can be fertile for a few days before and a few days after ovulation. If you have a cycle that is longer than average, which would mean you ovulate later...so consider how much time you typically go from one period to the next.

To maximize your chances of getting pregnant and making sure your timing is done correctly, it is best that you have sex every other day, from the 11th day of your period through to the 17th day. I say every other day. That is when you ovulate and have the best chances of getting pregnant. Some people will recommend having sex every day on those days that you ovulate. However it has been proven that to have the best chances, it is better to have sex every other day, since the sperms are more healthy in that way.

However, you should know that the above is only valid for women who have a regular 28 days menstrual circle. If you have an irregular period, then timing could be more difficult for you and locating exactly when you ovulate is of utmost importance if you really want to get pregnant.
