When Teenage Drivers Hit Pedestrians With Dire Consequences

In general, young drivers are at higher risk of geting into an accident. Just a cursory look at very recent reports of motor vehicle accidents indicates that some of them involved teen drivers. This motor vehicle accident involved a sixteen year-old driver who was driving under a junior license. The accident occurred at approximately 9:20 on a Tuesday evening. The junior license did not allow driving past 9 pm. The driver lost control of his car, hit another car, and then slammed into a 65 year-old male pedestrian who was waiting at a bus stop. The victim died from his injuries a short time after being hit. The driver suffered minor injuries. He was, however, arrested and charged with speeding, manslaughter, and criminally negligent homicide.

This motor vehicle accident was caused by an eighteen year-old driver who was driving while intoxicated. The accident took place on a Sunday morning at roughly 2:30. Most drunk driving accidents take place on weekend nights. The driver hit a male pedestrian, 44 years of age, who was crossing a road. The force caused the pedestrian to suffer severe head injuries. Following the accident the teenage drunk driver was arrested and was charged with driving under the influence and with driving while intoxicated.

This motor vehicle accident involved an 18 year-old male driving in a residential area at about 8:00 a.m. on a Sunday morning. The accident took place when the teenaged driver lost control of his vehicle. It turned forcefully and flipped, hitting a pedestrian who had just left his car to get a pamphlet from the front yard of one of the homes. The home was for sale and had a sign and the pamphlets in the front yard. After hitting the man the car continued until it was finally stopped when it struck a tree in front of the house. The victim died from his injuries. He was sixty seven years old.

This motor vehicle accident involved a 19 year-old female driver also driving in a residential neighborhood. The young driver left the scene of the accident after she struck a woman who was gardening in a flower bed in front of her own home. The teenage driver hit the woman so hard that she hurled her virtually 150 feet. The female victim ended up slamming against a truck that was parked in the driveway of her home. The driver did not stop. About 30 minutes after the accident the police located the young driver and placed her under arrest. They found her not far from the scene of the accident. She claimed she was going back to the scene to take responsibility for the accident.

On a personal level it is sad to have to read about these accidents. Lives are destroyed in them. Victims can die or suffer severe injuries. Some are left with life-long disabilities. The families of the victims also suffer a great loss. Even the teenage driver's life is changed forever. Sometimes they suffer the rest of their lives from from their guilt. Sometimes they end up in jail. But, whether it is from speeding or from drunk driving these accidents continue to happen.
