Is it ever wise to just leave your home?

Is it ever wise to just leave your home?

It can be difficult to keep up house payments in tough times. You can find yourself in a quicksand situation when you get behind. Property values are dropping, the resale value of your home will mean you will lose money on the sale. Many think it's a good idea to just pack up and walk away from a home that isn't selling. Why not just move out to somewhere different and start again?

Danger, Danger, High voltage!

Those individuals who think just walking away is a good idea just do not understand the foreclosure nightmare. Foreclosure is time consuming, emotionally disturbing and extremely stressful to say the very least.

You made a commitment to this investment and to repay the loan. You needed a dwelling place then and you still do. Other than your commitment, there are other legal reasons you must follow through.

There is a season for everything. There is a time for everything. Property values will appreciate again.

There is help if you cannot meet your payments:

Rate type mortgages cause big issues when the economy gets tight. There are internet companies that help people who feel overwhelmed by their mortgage situation. They say that foreclosure cannot be avoided and walking away is a viable option. These companies are trying to take advantage of unsuspecting homeowners.

Help on the internet should not cost you more money. There are many organizations that are nonprofit that are there to help the home owner save their home and their credit by lending a helping hand with negotiations between you and your mortgage lender. Make sure the agencies are HUD approved. These credible nonprofit organizations who will offer advice that is free.

Scam artists using foreclosure as their cover should be avoided.

Companies offering foreclosure deals will come out of the woodwork when you fall into the late payment trap. They will make idle promises to take your title through Quickclaim Deed, where the result will be a lose/lose for you. If you are seriously considering this drastic action, contact a real estate lawyer. Look into it first.

Foreclosure should not be an option!

If a "Notice of Default" comes to you, you can stop the action. Look for companies that are reputable for help in the nonprofit category.

What about companies that aren't nonprofit offering you help? Foreclosure will ruin your credit which is something you will need to in order to start again. It will take ten years for your credit to go back to decent. The interest rate will be high if you manage to get another mortgage. The point is to do everything in your power to protect your credit.
