When To Contract Brochure Printing Jobs To The Experts
Nowadays, anyone looking to get brochure printing done has two options
. The first option is the one we have always had: of taking the job to the experts, instructing them appropriately, paying them and then waiting for results. The second option is a relatively new one, born of the quite recent PC revolution. It is the option of doing the brochure printing for yourself. Provided you have some sort of desktop publishing software on your computer, and that you have the right hardware (in terms of a printer with good resolution), there is no reason as to why you cannot do your brochure printing for yourself.
Now a difficult predicament that many people find themselves in is where they are faced with the question as to whether to do their brochure printing for themselves, or whether to contract it to the experts in that field. More often than not, it actually turns out to be a question of when' rather than whether.' In most cases, doing brochure printing in-house will tend to much cheaper than you could get anyone out there to do it for you. Yet, that notwithstanding, and the fact that you can get your brochure printing very conveniently done in-house notwithstanding, there are situations where it would still be in your best interests to contract the whole brochure printing job to the experts.
One of such situations is where it turns out that the job is too complex for you, in terms of graphic design requirements even with the particular DTP program you have. It takes a certain degree of humility to make an admission like this; for we are all predisposed to think of ourselves as intelligent and knowledgeable' people. Yet your making it can free you to go shopping for an expert who can get the job done really well. There are situations when you are presented with a message that you wouldn't know how to lay out on a brochure for maximum effect. A look through the graphic design tutorials available online doesn't seem to be shedding much light either. So what do you do? The only thing you can consider doing is enlisting the services of an expert. The expert may not have all the answers, but an exploratory discussion with him can start shedding light on some of the grey areas you had.
There is also the situation where, confident as you are that you can make reasonably good brochures, you simply don't want to take chances with the project. So you contract it to the experts. In other words, this is where the stakes are too high, and you are not willing to take any chances.
Yet another situation where contracting a brochure printing job to the experts would be the rational thing to do would be where a costing analysis has shown such outsourcing to be the most cost-effective way to do it. This would, most probably, be on a large scale brochure printing job, where the specialist printing firms, leveraging on the economies of scale, may be able to do it more cost-effectively.
