When Vacationing In Orlando, Be Sure To Take In The Beaches Nearby

Orlando, home of the fabulous Disney World, makes a great base from which to visit Florida's beaches and many other fascinating sights

. In addition to theme parks, Florida has an abundance of other attractions that bring visitors back year after year.

Within a few miles driving distance from Orlando are such fascinating sights as the Kennedy Space Center, Merritt Island National Wildlife Refuge and several of Florida's finest beaches. Many recreational sites are fun, interesting and educational.

Canaveral National Seashore offers 24 miles of pristine beach, mild temperature ocean water for swimming or surfing and plenty of Florida sun. The Historical Interpretive Park makes early pioneer and Native American history come alive. Park rangers lead events, such as pontoon boat tours, that are frequent at the park. In this park alone, there are 14 species of animals listed on the endangered aquatic and land based species lists, including seven reptiles, four birds, and three mammals.

Cocoa Beach is a must-see when vacationing in Florida. Situated on a barrier island off the state's central east coast, it is a favorite spot for watching space launches. Water sports include kayaking around the Banana River islands, snorkeling, scuba diving and swimming in the mild Atlantic waters. A day at Cocoa Beach might also include sighting whales when they are migrating, or dolphins. The city of Cocoa Beach offers every type of dining experience, great shopping, festivals and beachfront parks with such amenities as showers, restrooms and picnic facilities.

Merritt Island, also within easy driving distance from Orlando, is home of the Space Shuttle and the Merritt Island Wildlife Refuge, Florida's premier East Coast habitat for over 1,500 species of animals and plants.

In addition to activities on the beautiful white sand beaches, every kind of water activity, from deep-sea fishing to water skiing, snorkeling and wind surfing is available for a vacationer's enjoyment. Moreover, the entire island is a great place to watch space launches.

Savvy vacationers often find renting a house or condo gives them the most freedom to enjoy everything Florida has to offer. With a home-like headquarters, families, couples or groups have options unavailable when lodging in a hotel.

Rental accommodations are luxurious, often including such amenities as pools, spas, and on-premises sporting facilities. Full kitchens make it easy to pack a picnic lunch for the beach, and laundry facilities enable guests to wash the sand from towels and swimsuits upon returning.

Florida vacationers find Orlando a most convenient hub for all activities. It is easy to enrich a vacation experience with much more than commercialized theme parks when planning an Orlando based vacation. And, don't forget that Florida gets very hot during the summer months. Some time at the beach might be just what the doctor ordered.
