When You Get High, This Is Where the Results Get Down

A drug test is a form of analysis where certain human fluids such as blood, urine, and saliva are examined in order to determine if a person has ingested any drugs. Usually this is done before sports competitions or when a person has been arrested for suspected use and abuse of illegal drugs. A drug testing laboratory is the site for drug tests. This article looks at three kinds of common drug tests.

The sweat drug screen is a type of drug test that is commonly used whenever a person is suspected of using drugs for a very long period of time. Sweat patches are attached to the person's skin and are left there for up to 4 hours before being sent to the testing laboratory. Usually parole departments and child protection services use this drug testing method.

Employers usually turn to a urine drug screen when processing prospective employees for hiring. The would-be employee is requested to fill a special cup with a sample of their urine (this is done while the employee is in the collection site and not at home) and then seal the cup with tamper-proof tape before having it delivered to the testing laboratory. Negative results means that the would-be employee is free from any drugs in his/her system. Positive results mean otherwise, and the employer would usually ask if the would-be employee if he/she is taking any prescription drugs before making a decision.

The last type of drug test is the saliva or oral fluid-based drug screen. This drug test is able to detect any presence of drugs in the body and whether a person has ingested drugs during the last 2 days. Saliva tests can immediately detect the presence of the following substances: amphetamines, alcohol, ecstasy, cocaine, benzodiazepines, opiates, phencyclidine, methamphetamine, marijuana, and hashish. The longest lasting drug or substance that can be detected by the saliva test is methamphetamines and ecstasy. These can leave traces in a person's mouth for up to 13 days. Alcohol, on the other hand, leaves traces in a person's mouth for up to 6 to 12 hours only.

A drug testing laboratory is the place where all results of drug tests are revealed. You don't have anything to fear from this place, unless you have the habit of getting high on drugs.
