When You Want The Best: Select Realtors Who Have A GRI Designation

The process of purchasing a home brings on complications and stress

, even for the most educated and seasoned buyer. Not only is there a lot of money at stake in most real estate dealings, but it can often have an emotional toll on a purchaser, particularly if there are families with young children concerned. Navigating the sphere of real estate dealings can be a tricky task, even in a buyer's market.

Why is it that, by not researching their chosen real estate agent just as meticulously as they've done the houses they're thinking of buying, some buyers set themselves up for failure? Sometimes buyers even opt not to retain a real estate agent in favor of representing themselves. Choosing this method is unwise.

Sit back and consider for a minute. Choosing to represent yourself in a real estate deal might seem like a wise idea at first. You might also be thinking that selecting a realtor who quotes less is much the same. You're probably considering that the less you expend on a real estate agent, the more money you can put toward the purchase of your house, correct? This is likely to boomerang on the unsuspecting buyer, even though it's technically correct. Representing yourself in a real estate deal is done at your own risk, unless you as a buyer are well-versed on the home-buying process and all the liabilities that can come with it if something ends up going wrong.

A buyer should strive to select a realtor with a proven track record in what can often times be an aggressive real estate market. Realtors with a GRI designation should be given careful consideration by buyers. A nationally recognized real estate designation, GRI stands for Graduate Realtor Institute. It means a realtor who has that title has been both professionally qualified and is a top performer in the real estate business.

It's similar to an accountant who is a CPA. A realtor must complete a rigorous educational program consisting of at least 90 hours of live course training in order to achieve the GRI designation, much like an accountant trying to earn their CPA. This ultimately means that a GRI realtor's own time and money have been used to guarantee best performance at their jobs. It is easy to see the benefit to you as a house purchaser. You, as a house buyer will also have both the assurances that the realtor you select understands complicated real estate dealings and peace of mind in a time otherwise filled with emotions. Who wouldn't like that?
