When an Artist Gets to Paint a Famous Horse

When an Artist Gets to Paint a Famous Horse

Some owners think their horse is the best in the world, according to an artist from Walla Walla. The championship does not determine the value of their horses. From a ranch on Springdale Road comes an artist who fully grasps this love and has made a business out of it. Her services include painting on commission, as well as photographing horse shows. Aside from her experience with a famous actor's championship endurance mount, Shur Raff Zi, she regularly tends to the regular horse lover.

This artist considers her work a blessing and a way to have fun. Her teenage self was attracted to horses in the first place. She began to develop her sketching abilities at the age of 11. Her uncanny ability to capture the reality of a horse can be attributed to her early drawing experiences. No two horses are alike, and she tries to bring out the uniqueness of each one.

Any of her paintings are done based on a photograph. Any sketching on site involves only adding marks or notes on color. She says she has encountered really finicky horse owners. They may ask the artist to highlight a certain angle or characteristic.

Their owners know them inside out, from facial expressions to cowlicks. Most clients want to capture their steeds exactly, not enhanced. Her canvasses and photos are filled with all kinds of breeds and events, even barrel racing and cutting.

Horses in action are harder to render. A cantering horse can look so clumsy at the wrong angle. She believes a telephoto lens best captures a horse in action. When she was active in the horse show field, she traveled to as many as 15 18 shows a year.

Both abilities came to good use at some shows, in which she would take pictures and turn them into paintings for prizes. She said horse show photographers who are really in the business travel with their dark room equipment in a van and develop the pictures on the spot. She feels her pictures come out the best when developed at her dark room at home.

Other kinds of pets are also included in her repertoire. To adequately draw dogs and cats, she needs to see them in person or see a good picture.

Her mental images do not give enough detail for her to work with.
