When cleaning dishes, doing laundry or getting up early become fun and inspiring tasks!
The first thing is that we have expectations that do not inspire us. Do you want to be known as someone who can accomplish 15 different things in the day? Or do you want to be known as the writer who wrote the inspiring article or novel? Or the designer that created that really cool animation? Or as the mom who easily went to pick up a sick child and rescheduled meeting that did not even need to take place?
It's simple, if it does not inspire you in some way, you won't do it. It does not mean you cannot find washing dishes inspiring. Many people find it soothing, even meditative. It is a time you can be with your own thoughts and may be even a time when best ideas will pop up.
So when you look at your to do lists, pick the ones that are either urgent or more impactful. If getting a haircut will make you feel good about yourself, it is much more important than sending that resume to the job that just got posted.
To be successful at transforming ordinary tasks into inspired actions you must be willing to look at it from a different perspective. And that's from the end goal. Don't think about your dishes as the pile of dirty stuff sitting in your sink. Think about it as the shiny colorful plates you use every day to eat your delicious meals. Don't think about the laundry as a pile of dirty clothes but the items that make you and your family feel good, warm or simply fabulous (my own tip: I always make sure I have one item I want to wear asap in the laundry so I get it done quickly).
So let's look at your schedule. What do you do first when you get up? I used to get up with my kid and make her breakfast first, then go back to sleep. I still get up with her but then I take the extra quiet time (my oldest gets up at 5:45 AM) to spend 10 minutes sitting next to her, looking at her and listening to every word she says. We both love it. It makes me feel connected to her (and to me as well) and it makes me I feel like I accomplished something huge as a mom.
If you are living alone, I recommend you take 5 extra minutes in bed and appreciate a few things about the moment right now. It could be the bed, the light in the room, how good your body feels, the dream you had, the love you feel in your heart, the birds chirping outside, anything that comes in mind.
That's your first key. When you deliberately choose to feel good in the morning, your day will instantly be easier. Your mood will be better and you will set up intentions that uplift you. As long as you choose to feel good, your day will be yours. Always.
