It takes a lot of training to become a medical transcriptionist

. It's not as easy as taking a single course in basic transcription. You have to learn terminology, physiology and much more.

The most important thing you need from your online medical transcription training course is the ability to get a good job after graduation. Does anything else really matter in the long run? Not very much. If you don't get work, what are you going to do with your education? You've just wasted a bunch of time and money.

Pick the right school and you improve your chances of getting the right job. That's assuming you were a good student and really learned what they tried to teach you, of course. You can go to the best school in the world with the best connections to employers, but if you can't do the job no one will want to hire you as a medical transcriptionist.

Some schools are partnered with certain employers. This is an advantage to you, as the partnership means they will test graduates of that program for jobs, without requiring that the graduates get two years of experience first.

That's huge. Most medical transcription jobs require at least two years of experience before they'll consider you. You need a way to get your foot in the door when you're freshly graduated.

Be careful about partnerships, however. Once in a while you'll encounter a school that claims to be partnered with an employer, but they're actually the same company. This can be a part of a work at home scam. You still need to check the school out before you decide to attend.

Cost will certainly be another big factor. It's not all that cheap to learn medical transcription online. Not as expensive as getting a college degree, of course, but still not cheap. $1800 is on the low end of the good online medical transcription school costs. Most schools will have some sort of payment plan if you cannot handle that expense upfront.

The time it takes to complete the course is another factor, but many online courses are mostly self paced, so the time it takes to complete is in part up to you. The harder you work on your training, the sooner you're done with it. Just make sure you're really learning the material, not just racing through to get done and start working. You won't get a job if you don't really know your stuff, remember?
