Where Do You Find Cheap Medical Transcription Training?
One very common complaint I hear is that medical transcription training costs too much
. It certainly isn't cheap if you want to go to one of the better schools. Isn't there a cheaper way to go?
Here's the thing about cheap. It doesn't always save you money in the long run.
When it comes to medical transcriptionist training, it's not that you can't save money on the training. It's that you're more likely to lose money with a longer job hunt and poorer productivity once you do have a job if you don't get good training. It can cost you far more in earnings than you would have spent on a better course.
That does not mean you need to pick the most expensive training courses out there. It does mean you should not just pick the cheapest course.
Balance the cost of the course with the quality of the program and the likelihood that employers will trust the program you graduate from. If employers trust the school, that's one foot in the door that will help you skip over that pesky two years of experience rule that almost all medical transcription employers have.
$1500-2000 is not at all an unreasonable amount to pay for training that usually takes 6-9 months and sometimes longer. There are good programs out there in that kind of price range.
Now compare that to what you hope to earn each month once you're working. If the program is good enough to shorten your probable job hunt, you'll earn the difference back between such a program and a cheaper one very quickly. Isn't that worth the investment?
There's a time and a place to go cheap. Education for a career that could last you the rest of your life isn't it.
Don't get stressed if you can't afford the fees just offhand. Lots of people can't. That's why many schools offer payment plans. You can pay for the training at a much more comfortable rate.
I strongly recommend sticking with online training programs when you're looking to work at home. The local community college may or may not offer medical transcription training at a price you like, but they rarely have the quality the good online programs have. They rarely have the reputation. They almost definitely don't have the flexibility of an online program to let you study on your schedule rather than having to attend classes in person at times they set.
The cost of a good quality online medical transcription training program is very much worth it. Take a good look and decide for yourself.
