Where Does Exercise Fit Into Your Life Priorities?
How is it possible that one person struggles to exercise on a regular basis and another
person cannot live without it? For some people an exercise program is an essential part of life making every single day better and for other people it is another nagging obligation. How does exercise work for you, is it a priority or do you wish it could be?
If you have not got it firmly cemented into your life it would be a good idea to take a look at your priorities. If your health/fitness or weight loss goals are important to you then it really is a non negotiable priority. It is pointless if you 'talk the talk' but are not prepared to 'walk the walk'. Some of us also need to change our thinking as many people have a distorted view of what an exercise program really means.
They should not expect:
To lose weight quickly as this does not happen in just a few weeks.
That exercise is a temporary short term thing and that it will stick if we quit.
Specific exercises will not reduce problem areas as you cannot spot reduce.
To be motivated every single day and it is up to you to get yourself going.
That exercise will be easy. Changing your body takes some effort and work.
If we are unrealistic about our exercise expectations we can use it as a way to sabotage ourselves. This drops it down to the bottom of our to-do lists so it does not get done. Realistic goals and taking action are what is needed to push exercise up the totem pole of priorities so it is more important for you.
If we find our actions do not match your words and desires it is time to figure out what you really want for yourself as making exercise a part of your life starts with making it important to you. Without this nothing else is going to happen. Yes, it might be hard but think back to other times in your life where you had to work hard for something you wanted. Most things worth having in life have taken some effort to achieve and exercise/fitness or weight loss is no different.
Your exercise program is like any other commitment...you need a road map or a plan to get you where you want to be. Sure exercise can get you stronger, reduce stress, help you lose weight, tone up saggy muscles and make you look and feel so much better. It can make your life better and your future brighter and healthier as well.
All these things take time to happen and in the meantime you will need to plod away while you wait for your physical results. The one thing guaranteed from every single workout though is that you will feel fantastic. That alone is worth the time and effort of that little time spent on you. Once you feel better everything else in life seems better too. Get it sorted, and then go for it.
