Where To Look When A Fitness Routine Is Not Working

Most of us know that we have to do something to either get in shape or stay that way

. Therefore, we do what we think is best. Generally this means cutting back on our food intake, while increasing in our activity. The only problem is that this sometimes does not seem to be enough.

We may think we are always saying no to second helpings, and never missing a workout. But, strangely this sometimes does not seem to have any effect at all. When that is true, we need to rigorously look at what we really are doing. All too often that reveals a certain amount of guesswork which has sabotaged our efforts. Painful as that realization may be, it is the essential to attaining new results. Where then should we look?

There are only three areas to examine more closely. These focus on diet, supplements and exercise. If we are not making any improvements or if we only think this to be the case, we can can be sure that there is something wrong in at least one of these areas.

When it comes to exercise, we may actually be exerting less effort today than yesterday. Often times this occurs when we do not even realize it. It is largely the result of believing that there are no positive differences in our performance today in relation to last week --a very depressing circumstance. Often times this in itself causes less energy to be invested in our current workouts. Only using equipment which enable us to monitor the number of rpms is the best safeguard against actually sliding backward.


Diet is the the most common place to find fault. It is so easy to lapse into that one more slice of whole wheat bread or that extra piece of chicken. This is largely because everyone knows that foods such as these will not hurt us. But extra calories will keep us from achieving the results we are after. The same is true for salad dressing on those daily five servings of vegetables.. It is so easy to slip into an extra tablespoonful that it almost seems excessive to mention it. But a second tablespoonful can mean as much as two hundred extra calories.

The final area is supplements. Most of us have an aversion to using anything that sounds like a performance enhancer. Therefore, we may try cutting back on ones such as green tea. This is often done when they are not only harmless, but in fact beneficial. These essential capsules, including mega-dose multi-vitamins, cause increased metabolism and thereby fight not only depression but the feelings of tiredness as well. Not using these on a regular basis, or cutting back because they either cost too much or because we think we should not need them, detracts from maintaining a routine which could in fact result in more dramatic changes.

Of course, it is always true that no gain from regular diet, exercise and supplementation can mean that there is a genetic problem. This is always possible. There is so much nowadays which is becoming known about body chemistry that this can never be ruled out. Too, there is always the effect of pesticides and other environmental factors which can be indirectly inhibiting weight loss or enhanced fitness objectives by interfering with normal bodily processes.


However, bio-chemical problems are far less likely than those related to human laxness. This is something that we all can get into without even really being conscious of it.
