Where's That Unsend Button

It's safe to say we've all had our share of e-mail blunders, mostly work-related, or at least in my experience. The most common slip-ups may include a list of Temps You Might Fancy A Shag With' sent to HR, a very detailed complaint about a co-employee sent to an immediate supervisor and to the very employee who was the e-mail's subject, or a rather racy message from a boss to his secretary (complete with code names) cc-ed to all. Oh the embarrassment, yeah? But sometimes, it's easy as not reporting to work and spending an entire day at home safely nestled under wholesale bedding sheets.

Right, it is as simple as skipping work and hiding under comfortable piles of bedding sheets sets. Indeed, a private sanctuary made of wholesale bedding sets can shield us from a great deal of shame, from the entire outside world at that. But what can that do to undo our mistake? Well, close to zero. A better thing to do is whilst under those comfy wholesale Jessica Sanders sheets; muster enough humility and courage to consider sending a follow-up email.

Let me use a mis-sent e-mail to my colleague Mary Jo as an example. As in any office, there's this lot aptly called jerks at work'. You can call Mary Jo that. Speaking of her was like speaking of the devil, or of a dozen beasts combined, so would others say. I wouldn't go to the extent of calling her such, for I have a cutesy little name for her: Mary Jumanji.

So Mary Jumanji sent a mass e-mail regarding her adult birthday dinner'. You can only guess how the office reacted. Some marked the message as SPAM, some instantly sent it to the Trash Bin and some reported it to IT saying it was malware. I would say I was the nicest, sending everyone a sarcastic e-mail saying we should give Mary Jumanji's adult birthday dinner' a shot. By everyone, I mean every single person in the office including Mary Jumanji herself. You bet she was the first one to reply to my e-mail.

Alright, let's see how this kind of situation can be remedied. First things first, check the contents of the e-mail and see just how deep into trouble you are. Maybe it isn't as grave a problem as a wrongly delivered wholesale drop shipment and all it needs is a simple resending or forwarding, to the right recipient of course. In this case no amount of re-sending will do, so jump to the second thing: apologize.

The main reason why you apologize is because you sent the wrong thing to the wrong person, so that's what I did. I sent a follow-up mass e-mail saying Mary Jumanji was someone from the neighborhood and I sent the message regarding her event to the wrong Group' of Contacts.

Remember the main point of the follow-up e-mail is to avoid losing face altogether so be careful the second time around.
