There are basically two ways to look for domain names. Firstly you can go to a domain name listing site and browse around until you find something you like or you can decide what you want and go to a domain name registrar to see if it's available.

To use the first method to look for domain names, go to whois.domaintools.com or any other domain name listing site. This one offers a couple of options to look for domain names.

Firstly there's a search box; just type in your preferred name and you will be told whether it's already in use. If it is, you can try to buy it, but it's probably easier to choose something different. Available related domain names will be displayed too.

Secondly, you can use the suggestion tool where you just type in your subject and a table appears showing twenty suggestions for free users and a hundred for paid users.

You can also search domains for sale.

Alternatively you can go to a domain registrar such as GoDaddy.com to look for domain names. Here there is a search tool as well which shows you whether your chosen name is available and if not, offers some suggestions.

It's generally agreed that .com, .net and .org are the best type of domain names to go for. It's also essential that you have keywords in your domain so do your keyword research. If yours is a review site, you could use the word review in your name, if it covers just one product then use the product name in the domain. If it's a mixture of things like an affiliate marketing site which contains articles, reviews and product recommendations then you may need to get creative because you can bet that affiliatemarketing.com is not available for purchase.

The latter two you can backorder. In other words, the domain is already registered but you can bid for it at auction - that could get expensive if there's hot competition.
