Which Are The Right Fuel Cards To Have?

If you are anything like me, then you love to get a bargain

, which means that when you pull up at the petrol station you are probably already checking the price board and you probably know which of the stations around your area are cheaper than the others. However, these can often change causing you to shop around at other shops. More and more of these stores are now offering fuel cards, but which of these is the best to have?

Two of the main suppliers in the UK, Shell and BP, both offer fuel cards with varying levels of rewards. Shells own brand of fuel cards offer the users the opportunity to collect air miles which can then be redeemed making travel even more affordable and beneficial.

BP on the other hand has gone into collaboration with a number of firms to make fuel cards that allow the users the opportunity to save money at a number of shops and stores around the UK. The card can be used in Sainsburys, Argos and a number of other leading retail brands to help the consumer save on their purchases.

Esso, who are another petrol brand in the UK, also had their brand of fuel cards, which offered discount at Argos. That card is now obsolete and that is where the problem lays. Which of these cards is the correct one to have? No one wants to wander around with a wallet or purse filled with an array of different fuel and discount cards.

From my experience there are only normally a couple of fuel stations that fluctuate between the cheapest prices, so I generally only carry cards for those two stores and head to whichever has the best deal at the time of purchase. Obviously there is no obligation for you to actually carry the card, but if you don't then there is every chance that the store clerk will offer you the opportunity to obtain a card.

Of course the simple thing to do here would be just to say 'no you do not wish to have a card' but by the time you have been asked for the twentieth time it does start to become slightly annoying. I don't know why the fuel companies don't get together and offer us a deal that we would really like to receive at the fuel pumps, which is money off the purchase of our fuel. When a company offers that, I'll use that station all the time.
