Which Has The Lower Fm Threshold, Dm800s Or Dm8000s

Before we begin the test of FM threshold of DM800S and DM8000S

, we should know what the FM threshold is. FM threshold is short for frequency modulation threshold. It is the lowest strength of signal input which the modulator requires. If the signal in the wave is weaker than FM threshold, the modulator will not be able to demodulate the original signal out of the wave. Since Dreambox is a series of cable, terrestrial and satellite signal receivers, its kernel is a tuner. And as we all know, the tuner is a kind of frequency modulator as well as the radio. As the tuner has to demodulate the signal in the wave, it would have a FM threshold, and this parameter will determine whether the terrestrial or satellite signal receiver has good suitability or not. Form the introduction above, it wont be hard to infer that the lower the FM threshold is, the better the machine will be.

DM800S and DM8000S are all Dreambox series satellite receivers produced by Dream Multimedia and both of them can deal with the HD satellite signal. Both of them uses the MIPS CPU and has a big capacity of RAM (256MB). According to the data above, we will be sure to say that they are all powerful Dreambox. However, they have some differences and these differences are just the factors which cause one a little more advance than another. The FM threshold of DM800S and DM8000S is just such a difference.

Now we begin the test. The antenna we use has the diameter of 1.5 meter, and the LBN we use is the PAUXIS-1000. The channel we intend to receive is the FTV (100.5 degree). We first turn on DM8000S; the TV program is very fluent. The AGC is 0% and the SNR is 50%. Then we turn to DM800S. Unfortunately, it almost cant demodulate the signal. Why do we say it is almost cant demodulate the signal? Because the strength of the signal is just reach the FM threshold of DM800S and this makes it have to try 2 or more times to download the channel and though it could download the channel, the scene will be too vague to enjoy.

So here is the collusion that the DM800S FM threshold is a little higher than DM8000S, though it has only 2DBi. Even though DM800 uses a low FM threshold ironclad tuner, and DM8000 uses two DVB-S2 board installed tuner, the former still has a higher FM threshold. There must be a secret in it.
