Which Is Better? Dog Racing or Casino Gambling?
Casinos are becoming more common in the US
Casinos are becoming more common in the US. Many dog tracks and horse tracks have slot machines or roulette wheels. Poker rooms exist in even the smallest tracks. Sometimes it seems as if there are more people in the casino than there are watching the races.
I think this is unfortunate, because it may be an indication that people are switching their preferences from one form of betting to another. And the casino games and poker just don't hold the appeal of live racing - at least not to me.
Yes, it's exciting, I suppose to watch a ball fall into a slot and rake in chips. I can understand how the excitement of the crowd around the table is contagious even. It's nice to be part of a crowd that's focused on winning.
Yet, whenever I'm in a casino for more than a few minutes, I get bored. That never happens to me when I'm watching dog races.
Most casinos are dark places with no windows. I know that they're set up this way so that players won't be distracted, but to me it's just depressing and dreary. Unlike race tracks which have a clock on the big odds board, casinos have no clocks. This is so that players won't realize how long they've been there.
The excitement of watching dogs race around a track at high speed never fades for me. Watching a ball circle a wheel or players scrutinizing their poker hands just doesn't have the same appeal.
Of course, as with most things, it's all in what you like. If you're bored by watching dogs racing, and only get excited when you win money, then of course you're going to prefer casinos. On the other hand, why not learn how to handicap the dogs or horses and win money on them?
Like the casino games, betting on greyhounds is a lot more exciting when you win. So find something that works and use it for awhile to handicap greyhounds. If you still don't find it exciting, even when you're cashing tickets, then go back to the casino and enjoy yourself.
