. Trying to stay green can be costly but has many benefits for the consumer. The choice between bamboo and cotton sheets is an individual one, but one in particular is more environmental than the other.

Bamboo Sheets

Bamboo sheets, although costly, have a great variety of perks for the environment and buyer alike. The environment can benefit greatly since these sheets are biodegradable, allowing the sheets to go back into the soil and break down quicker than non-biodegradable products. Bamboo is considered to a renewable source that can grow quickly, this helps fight global warming in the long run.

For the consumer the benefits are numerous with these sheets. The organically grown sheets are chemical free and are antibacterial, making it harder for harmful bacteria to grow. The sheets are made to be hypoallergenic, which can ultimately mean that bedbugs will not be a problem and the sheets are perfect for those who have allergies.

The consumer can experience a smooth feeling from them, similar to a cashmere texture. The sheets can stay fresher for longer and are naturally temperature regulating. By adjusting to body heat, it can feel cooler in the summer and warmer in the winter without having to rely on the air conditioner or heater full time.

Cotton Sheets

The choice of cotton sheets gives the consumer three varieties to choose from including regular, Pima, and Egyptian. While all of these have a different feeling on the skin, they all allow the movement of air. The sheets that are all cotton are smoother and softer to the touch and are considered to be very durable even when washed repeatedly.

When thinking about the environment though cotton sheets have some disadvantages compared to bamboo sheets. The cotton crop requires more water, depleting the groundwater available for other uses. The cotton can also be exposed to fertilizers and be interfered with during the manufacturing process.

Which to choose, bamboo or cotton? They both have appeal to individual consumers. Speaking environmentally wise though, bamboo is a better choice. This plant is organically grown, and is a renewable source that grows quickly. Cotton is renewable, but during the process takes longer to be ready for harvesting and requires more water than the bamboo stalk.
