As the capital of England and one of the major business and cultural centres of Europe

, London is a vibrant and exciting place to live. There are always plenty of engaging things going on in this city of eight million people, yet unlike other major cities such as New York and Los Angeles, finding a flat is relatively easy.

There are 32 districts in Greater London. Some were once small villages or boroughs that were absorbed by London expansion; some were just neighbourhoods without any official boundaries. Today, all the districts are part of the London administrative area. As for the city itself, there are no fewer than nine distinctive neighbourhoods, each with unique characteristics which set them apart.

If you're considering a move to the City of London you might ask which neighbourhood would make the best place to live. Tastes differ and it's rather hard to answer such a question. But some of the more noteworthy areas are worth taking a closer look at here.

Notting Hill

One of the most famous districts of London is Notting Hill. It sits in the north-western part of the borough of Kensington and Chelsea. If you buy an apartment in Notting Hill, it would be situated near the well-known Portobello Road Market. Also you may take part in annual Notting Hill Carnival, which takes place every August. Notting hill is a mix of quiet residential streets and eclectic, cosmopolitan thoroughfares. It's a great area for residents who enjoy both the peace of suburbia and the close proximity of the city centre.

Pimlico

Pimlico is a small area right in the heart of central London, known for its glorious 19th century architecture and vast gardens. Well planned streets owe great architect Tomas Cubitt, who was a city planner in the beginning of 1800s. Historic buildings abound in Pimlico, making it the ideal neighbourhood for those who desire to live among such rich history.

Hampstead

For the more affluent is the northern area of Hampstead. It is has the most expensive realty in England and considered to be one of the most expensive areas for living in the world. For example, a large house in Hampstead may cost up to 50 million. But don't worry; there is an ample supply of reasonably priced flats for rent.

Hampstead offers you to live in London's northern suburbs, but in the same time you would be close enough to the centre of the city.

It's the best of both worlds. Hampstead offers plenty of beautiful parkland and sports fields, quiet residential streets, and several museums, historic sites, and arts and music venues. And most everything you'd want to do is within a fifteen minute walk.

Other London neighbourhoods include Bayswater, Bloomsbury, Euston, Earls Court, Fulham, and West Kensington. Finding what's right for you is a matter of speaking to a rental agency or real estate agent. But you may find a point of view that London is for everyone, and everybody may find something for his or her dwelling needs.
