Which Tasty Burger Contains the Best Nutrition Content?
There is nothing better than the succulent taste of a beef burger on a Saturday afternoon
, other than having it with an ice cold light beer! On the other hand, can you think of a more healthier option than a beautifully cooked turkey burger? As we all know, beef is way higher in cholesterol when compared to the pure white meat in turkey. But be careful, if you are making a turkey burger, that you don't get that turkey mince which is has an extreme low fat content.
The very lean turkey mince is really low in fat, at around one gram per 120g of meat. But this healthy white meat does not stick together very well, making for a pretty disappointing snack! To resolve this problem, you could always add an egg to help it stick, but remember you are adding extra fat back into the mix.
To save all that hassle, is it worth sticking to a beef burger?
There are many health problems associated with red meats, from high blood pressure to heart disease. Saturated fats (found in red meats) will boost your cholesterol levels to the stars if you eat too much, particularly if you don't vary your diet including white meats like turkey. However, the advantages of some fats is that they slow down the rate at which carbohydrates are absorbed into the body, which in turn balances blood sugar levels, increasing your feeling of feeling full for longer.
So, which do you choose - the succulent beef burger or the healthy turkey burger? The beef burger comes out on top every time, unless you are trying to 'cut up'!
You need to keep your testosterone levels high, which is helped by red meat. And although saturated fats are generally bad for most people, they will also bump up your testosterone levels. Studies have confirmed this comparing athletes on low saturated fat diets, against those on higher saturated fat diets.
The testosterone levels of red meat eaters was a lot higher than the other group and the advantage of this higher testosterone level is it helps you pack on more muscle. But always take the turkey burger option if you are eating out. Because you are likely to get a mix of light and dark meat in your turkey burge anyway containing about 20g of fat. But that is a lot better than the 35g of fat in the beef burger, agreed?
