Which Type of Ink Cartridge is More Suitable for You?

Refilling inkjet printers is an activity that you have to get used to if you are a regular user of an inkjet printer

. You can get an idea of how important ink cartridges are for both customers and manufacturers by the fact that most manufacturers generate a major portion of revenue from sale of ink cartridges and not from sale of their printers. Many manufacturers of printers also manufacture ink cartridges for consumers and this type of cartridges are referred to as OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) cartridges.

It's not hard to understand that OEM cartridges are much more suitable to be used with your printer simply because they are designed to work with your printer as both the products have been produced by the same company. For instance, if you own an HP printer, then you would have to buy an HP cartridge and a Cannon cartridge for a Cannon printer and so on. However, the downside of buying OEM ink cartridges is that they're more costly as compared to other alternatives.

If you can't afford to buy OEM cartridges day in day out, then you'll have to resort to another type of ink cartridges called compatible cartridges which are not manufactured by the same company that has produced your printer, but they're still compatible with your printer's requirements. But if you're going to go for a cost-effective solution as in compatible ink cartridges then you'll have to compromise on quality and may even make a contribution in reducing the life of your printer.

Despite the fact that compatible cartridges are an alternative to OEM cartridges, no one can deny the fact that this isn't the ideal solution as the results of prints aren't high quality. In some cases, it has also come to surface that using ink cartridges other than OEM cartridges can do some long-term damage to printers making them obsolete quicker than normal. So, the decision to choose what type of ink cartridges are to be used depends on what you have to print and how often you have to use your printer.

For users who have to take hundreds of prints on a daily basis and can put up with decent quality, should definitely use compatible ink cartridges or else they'll have to spend heavily on purchasing expensive cartridges considering how frequently they will have to refill their printers. On the other hand, printer users who can't compromise on quality should stick with OEM cartridges.
