White van men are stereotypically a nightmare on Britain's roads; cutting people up, tearing about, never indicating and breaking the speed limit.

The term white van man was originally coined for self employed people like plumbers or builders, who use their van as part of their trade. But a survey of one thousand drivers, commissioned by Volkswagen, found that they feel this stereotype to be outdated and unfair.

One in three white van men actually tuned out to be women, while Two thirds of white van men exercise more than three times a week, and the modern white van driver is healthier than expected, opting for healthy foods like a salads or fruit when on the go, as opposed to the stereotypical bacon sandwich, pasty of a packet of crisps.

A great percentage of the white van drivers interviewed are avid users of social media sites like facebook and twitter; six out of ten of the drivers asked regularly updated their statuses and two out of ten are regular tweeters.

Seven out of ten of them own a laptop and six out of ten have a smart phone device, like a blackberry of an iphone, with more and half of them owning an HD TV.

Head of marketing at Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles David George said: "Our research looked to challenge some of the more outdated perceptions of modern van drivers and it certainly has."

Hopefully, with these perceptions of the modern white van man being shaken, the Car Insurance Quotes for these vehicles may start to drop quite considerably.
