. There is something fun and unique about racing slot cars that grown men enjoy returning to the days of their youth. Some go for the miniature train sets. But for those who remember the excitement of racing around the track in their favorite sports car, even if it was a toy, their love is for the slot car.

One man who is thirty seven years old recently completed construction on the largest slot race car track in the country. It is over 170 feet long and is an elaborate to scale replication of some of the real race tracks in the country. He even had to get permission from the city to build the forty foot addition to his home.

You might think that it is too much trouble simply to race slot cars on. But the thirty seven year old man has a brain tumor that has been diagnosed as cancerous. The slot car racing he says is what helps him make it through the day. When he was growing up all he ever wanted for Christmas or his birthday was more slot cars. Now his obsession is what he uses for therapy.

He has many grown men visiting every week to come and race their slot race cars on the track he built. They like the hobby. Some say that no one gets injured; no one twists an ankle or pulls a muscle racing slot cars.

This is a hobby that is not as popular as it was many years ago. Kids these days are fixated on computerized video games that allow them to kill and destroy various enemies created by the video game companies.

The video games are interactive only to extent that a kid can move his joy stick up and down and around. The slot cars however are something that can be held in the hand. You can see the variety of different cars and learn how to make them go faster. You can maneuver them on the track around the twists and turns to keep them on the track without spinning out of control.

If grown men are still playing with cars then there must be something special about the race cars. But today most kids do not want the same experience. Which is too bad. Perhaps kids do not want to deal with the upkeep and storage of the slot cars. Or perhaps they would rather stare at a computer video game screen instead of learning how to handle the tight curves and corners of the slot car race track. But one thing is for sure the skill you need to race slot cars is a skill that is dying out.

One man knows that for sure. He is a man with a cancerous brain tumor who gets a lot of therapy and satisfaction from his hobby. It brings back the days of competition and happy memories. But then again, who cares about memories when he is racing to win today.
