Who's Your Online Marketing Guru?

Last week I was speaking to a guy at the gym I had recently started going to. We began talking about our personal trainers. If you aren't familiar with the term, these are fitness specialists who are trained to plan workout routines determined by an individuals abilities, needs and goals.

At any rate, Rick said one thing that struck me right between the eyes. "I became so confused reading the different books and fitness magazines. Everyone has a particular recommendation of what produces the best results. I ultimately figured if I was going to exercise, I might as well select one coach, listen to them and stick with their approach."

Later, as I was heading home, I thought about how appropriate my friend's statement was to Marketing on the internet. Everyone's a guru. (Even those that have yet to make any money.) And there are a million programs, books, secrets, techniques and strategies you can utilize.

The problem is, it is possible to fall into what my business school professor called, "Analysis Paralysis". That's where a lot of people are stuck. They keep studying, and it gets in the way of actually doing something.

I was guilty of this, also. I must have purchased several hundred dollars worth of books and courses before I discovered what was effective for me.

Luckily, the mentor I chose to pay attention to was, in hindsight, a really good choice. And by following his advice and listening to his ideas, I have built up a number of profitable income streams.

My point isn't that my "guru" is the best one for everybody. The point is to select one or maybe a a few people you really admire, and model them. Of course, make sure they are actually successful in their own businesses first. But when you find somebody you respect and whose style you like, listen to their suggestions and stick with what they suggest in their training.

Adopting this approach can save lots of brain cells that you would spend switching strategies and tactics. It prevents confusion and gives you a good reference poing from which to work.

You don't have to keep reading and searching for the latest webinars. Assume your guru knows the most recent strategies and will advise you of their effectiveness.

I'm not saying you never look at another program or video again, it's just that you have one primary coach you follow, it's that much easier to find your way.
