Who's playing at the Liverpool Summer Pops Festival?
Liverpool's influence on the world of popular music is well-documented
, with one of the city's most famous exports being the Fab Four. The Beatles will doubtless continue to influence generations of musicians for decades to come, so it's fitting that the north west city has its own high-profile event to celebrate the best bands, old and new, at the height of the summer season.
Liverpool's Summer Pops Festival takes place in the Liverpool Echo arena, the city's premier live music venue capable of hosting more than 10,000 revellers, as well as other venues throughout the city. The 2010 festival opened in early July with the inimitable folk rock star Jackson Browne, performing the hits he wrote for such influential bands as the Byrds, the Eagles and Joan Baez, joining the already impressive roster of musicians who have performed at the music festival since its inception in 2001 - including Bob Dylan, Ray Charles and Shirley Bassey.
Despite its 'pop' moniker, the festival doesn't restrict its focus to a single musical genre, highlighting everything from rock 'n' roll to jazz and folk performances. This year's festival has already seen the likes of Rod Stewart taking to the stage at the Echo Arena, proving that old rockers never die with a mix of classic hits and choice cuts from his new Top 10 album Soulbook.
Other notable acts at this year's festival, which has firmly established itself as one of Europe's leading music events, include world-class tribute bands Zappa Plays Zappa and the Australian Pink Floyd Show. The latter famously recaptures everything that was so enthralling about the prog rock band's live shows in the 1970s and 80s, introducing new generations to their music in a performance of great music, lasers and pyrotechnic effects.
As with any prestigious event, those who want to sit in the lap of luxury during the Summer Pops Festival can arrange for an exclusive VIP pass offering reserved gold circle seats, as well as complimentary refreshments and a souvenir programme.
If you're heading to Liverpool for the Summer Pops Festival this month, you can benefit from a convenient location with
Liverpool hotels near the Docks. There's no need to limit your horizons to the festival itself, either, with Liverpool boasting some of the most acclaimed visitor attractions and experiences in the north of England - including the Beatles Story museum that celebrates the city's proud musical heritage.
