Who is Moses in Islam? (Qur'anic View) Part III
Moses grew up in the house of the Pharaoh of Egypt. Then, Moses upon maturity and manhood God has provided him with knowledge and wisdom. We are informed in Surah 28: verse 14:
And when he reached his full strength and maturity, We provided him with wisdom and knowledge, and thus do We reward the beneficent.'
Age of maturity and manhood strength in Islam is forty years:
Till, he attained full strength and reached forty years.' 46: 15
At one time the city was in a state of carelessness, Moses entered and saw two men fighting each another. He killed one of them when the other asked him for his help:
And he entered the city at a time of carelessness of its people, and he found therein two en fighting, one of his own caste, and the other of his enemies; and he who was of his caste asked him fro help against him who was of his enemies. So Moses struck him and killed him.' 28: 15
The Qur'an informs us of Moses' remorse where he recognized his deed as the incentive of the devil:
He said: This is of the devil's doing. Lo! he is an enemy, an evident misleader.' 28: 15
Moses, acknowledging his misdeed he turned to God and repented:
He said: My Lord! Lo! I have wronged my soul, so forgive me. Then He forgave him. Verily! He is the Forgiving, the Merciful.' 28: 16
He further implored God to help him not to be supporter of those who do wrong:
He said: My Lord! Forasmuch as You have bestowed Your blessing upon me, I will nevermore be a supporter of the wrong-doers.'
Then Moses was in constant fear watching out to be caught and killed in revenge and as punishment for his misdeed. All the same, the state of carelessness continued in the city and the following day the same man who asked him for help renew his demand to help him again against his enemy:
And morning found him in the city, fearing, vigilant, when behold! He who had appealed to him the day before cried out to him for help. Moses said unto him: Lo! You are indeed a mere hothead.'
Moses then wanted to knock out the enemy and the man reminded Moses of his misdeed the day before. So Moses came back to his senses and refused to commit another slaughter:
And when he would have fallen upon the man who was an enemy unto them both, he said: Oh Moses! Would you kill me as you did kill a person yesterday? You would be nothing but a tyrant in the land. You would not be of the peace makers.' 28: 19
Moses abstained from helping his caste-fellow and did not commit another sinful mischief.
The example of Moses in Islam is repeatdly recited in the Qur'an reference to God's direct intervention in man's life.
