Whooping cough

Whooping cough (pertussis) is a respiratory disease caused by the bacteria Bordetella pertussis.


- Call the doctor if you suspect that your child has whooping cough.

- Depending on the symptoms, whooping cough is commonly treated with antibiotics.

- Infants and younger children are more likely to be hospitalized because they're at greater risk for complications.


- Increase the intake of fluids.

- Treatment also includes rest, a cool-mist vaporizer, and supplemental oxygen may be needed to treat hypoxia.

Take a spoon of syrup made of radishes and raw cane sugar everyday.

- Take about one teaspoon of garlic juice 2-3 times everyday.

- Take 1tsp of fenugreek seeds + 1 cup of water + 1tsp of ginger + some honey. Boil the ingredients and drink.

- Have a cup of grape juice, mixed with a tsp of honey, on a daily basis.

- Take 10 drops of ginger juice and insert five drops of almond oil in it. Also add few drops of onion juice in it. Taking this mixture three times a day.

- Mix a pinch of calamus powder with honey and take twice a day.

- Cut a small slice of ginger and dip it in some rock salt and lemon juice. Store this in an airtight container. Lick this whenever the cough attacks.

- Avoid eating foods like milk, dairy products, refined flour products, rice and sugar products, etc which increases phlegm.

- Dry the herb of belleric myroblan and cover it with wheat flour. Now, roast the herb and consume it.

- Take a tablespoon of aloe vera juice and honey which are mixed in equal parts.

- Roast and powder the root of turmeric. Take 3 grams of this powder, along with milk, two times a day.

- Crush a medium-sized onion and add the juice of one lemon to it. Now, pour a cup of boiling water over it and add a tsp of honey. Take this 2 to 3 times a day.

Whooping Cough (Pertussis) is a bacterial infection of the lungs which is caused by a bacterium Bordetella pertussis.

- It is a disease of respiratory system.

- It is highly contagious.

- It's characterized by severe coughing spells that end in a "whooping" sound when the person breathes in.

- The whoop originates from the inflammation and swelling of the laryngeal structures that vibrate when there is a rapid inflow of air during inspiration.

- The coughing is the body's way of trying to get rid of thick mucus (say myoo-kus) from the lungs.

- It begins with cold and a mild cough and effects the respiratory tract and the lungs.

- It may occur to any person of any age but is more common in infants and children below four years of age.

- It is due to bacterial infection in the breathing passage.


- The incubation time is about seven to fourteen days.
