Why A Manager Needs To Delegate Effectively
Effective managers have many strings to their bows
. They have to be good motivators, organisers and supporters. However, one particularly important skill is being able to delegate effectively. If a manager does not have this skill or has the inability to delegate effectively then, this can lead to failure and frustration.
However, many managers find delegating one of the most difficult to apply in their job. There are many causes and reasons for this that can include being too busy, not having enough time, a lack of trust in their own team and the list can go on. There are managers who are control freaks who cannot bear to let go or do not consider delegation is part of the managers job. However, the success of a manager, their team and the organisation they work for depends on them being able to delegate effectively. If you are a manager who finds it difficult to delegate then, the following reasons on why it is so important should change your mind.
If you want to progress as manager or you have ambitions for higher things then delegation is a skill you need to a learn and apply. To rise through the ranks you need to have the ability to take on greater responsibilities and this means more work. However, the number of hours in the day remains the same therefore, you will need to be able to delegate. If you can successfully manage the members of your team effectively who all have a specific role and responsibility will show that you have the ability to advance.
No matter how good youre organisational skills or the amount of hours that you work, the reality is that you cannot do it all. You may be able to pull it off for a while but the cracks will eventually show. Your stress levels will increase, you will become tired and exhausted, the job will quickly lose its appeal. Therefore, for the sake of your job, health and family learn how to delegate.
The one thing that empowers and motivates staff is trusting them do to do their job. This enables staff to get more involved, to have the feeling that everyone in the team is pulling together to one common goal. In this environment staff become happier, more productive and successful and this success will reflect favourably on you, the manager.
If you have the habit of doing everything then you are not giving your individual members in your team the chance to grow and develop. If you create an environment that encourages staff to come up with new creative ideas and solutions to problems they become more willing to take initiative. In this environment employees are more likely to take responsibility and see their assignments through to the end.
