Why An Exchange Backup Is So Important

If you are like most people that run an IT department

, or a small company, you think that you have a pretty good handle on your server's security. You have trained all of your staff not to open attachments from people they don't know, and they don't install their own software - all in efforts to prevent viruses. If you have a firewall installed, you may even think that your server and all of your users are inpenetrable, but you may find out that isn't the case at all.

Most issues that happen with servers these days are not due to outside viruses that traditionally would come into the system via email. There are now a number of ways that viruses and different types of malicious programs can enter your server. If you don't have an Exchange backup installed, you may find that your entire system is destroyed.

One of the most common reasons why servers go down is actually due to simple user error. Sometimes it's a simple mistake that erases years' worth of information, and other times, people are doing things that they simply aren't qualified to do so. You may also find that your own employees are intent on destroying information or making someone's life harder within the company and are intentionally destroying information.

Unfortunately, you won't realize the value of buying an Exchange backup program until disaster has already struck. If you have made it this far without succumbing to a natural disaster, a hardware failure, a burst pipe, a power surge, or some type of natural disaster, then you can pretty much expect that you will be next in line. Sooner or later, every server will go down, and the best you can hope for is that you are properly backed up and ready to go when the time comes.
