Why Are Some Watches So Much More Expensive Than Others
In the area of mass production that we know as ours
, watches are on one part functional items of everyday use and on the other part fashion and social status icons of extreme price. A simple watch today probably starts at 5 $ if it is of good quality and taste. There are however watches that can cost from several hundred thousand dollars to even millions. Why is there such a wide gap between watches? Of course there is a range of price in all products out there but in watches it is mind taking for the functional part is the same and doesn't change. The quality that is related to the price however is very important but it is not related to the ability of a watch to tell time and therefore doesn't excuse such a gap.
There are many reasons for it but we are going to present here the most important ones that in large part determine the price of a watch:
*Method of manufacturing.
It is only normal that the watches that are produced using the traditional methods of the old watch makers are more expensive. Their price firstly has to do with the time that is needed for a watch to be produced. A very good watch may take 2 or three months to finish and that is expensive time a highly skilled professional has dedicated to create a piece of art.
*Part materials.
A very expensive watch has expensive watch parts. A watch with the standard materials just won't do. If so much time is needed to produce such a watch then the watch itself would need to sustain time for a longer period. That is why the parts of these watches are produced of gold, platinum and even diamonds. We are not talking about the exterior decoration but of the tiny mechanical parts that make a watch tick. These materials are extremely resilient and may keep working efficiently without losing a second even after a century or so. Since these materials are expensive not only regarding their market price but also their transformation cost to watch parts, the watches themselves are expensive.
*Decoration.
It adds to the cost of the watch to an unbelievable amount. The most expensive watch today is the Karat Chopard, a women's watch that is decorated with 201 carats of diamonds of various colors and its price is as high as 25 million dollars. No doubt the quality of the watch itself is impeccable but the price is definitely determined by the expensive decoration of this specific watch.
Those are the three most important features that all expensive watches share. The watch that is created with the traditional method is an expensive one, the one that has also special body parts is even more expensive and the decoration is what adds the final zeros to the price. If you are looking for a good watch these three factors are enough for you to understand if the price is corresponding to the quality of the watch.
